STERLING SILVER / FINE SILVER
What is sterling silver? (Silver 925)
Sterling silver is a high-quality metal that is made up of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals.
Care instructions
- To protect its durability, it's important to store your sterling silver and gold plated sterling silver jewelry in a dry and cool place. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight or harsh chemicals, such as perfumes or hairsprays, remove them when showering, bathing, or engaging in heavy exercise, particularly when swimming in the sea or a chlorinated swimming pool. When not in use, keep your jewelry in a jewelry box or a sealed plastic bag to protect it from the air.
- To clean sterling silver, use a soft cloth and a specialized silver cleaning solution or a mixture of baking soda and water. Gently rub the cloth over the surface of the jewelry in a circular motion, being careful not to scratch the metal. Rinse the jewelry with water and dry it with a soft cloth.
What is fine silver? (Silver 999)
Silver 999, also called fine silver, is composed of 99.9% pure silver. It is softer and more ductile than sterling silver (92.5% silver) and has a bright, lustrous appearance. Because it contains very little alloyed metal, Silver 999 is prized for its purity and colour but requires slightly different care.
Care instructions
-
Store in a dry and cool place. Avoid sunlight and chemicals. Remove for water and heavy activity: Take off Silver 999 when showering, bathing, swimming (especially in sea water or chlorinated pools) or during heavy exercise.
- When not in use, keep your jewelry in a jewelry box or a sealed plastic bag to protect it from the air. For heavier tarnish, use a silver‑safe cleaning solution formulated for fine silver or make a paste from baking soda and water (mild consistency). Apply gently with a soft cloth or very soft brush, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
Additional tips
Frequent wear helps slow tarnish: Wearing Silver 999 regularly can actually help keep it brighter, as natural skin oils can reduce tarnishing.
